Metropolitan Community Church of Rehoboth
“Rehoboth” - Room For Us, Room For ALL !        (Genesis 26:22)
February 2012           Volume 15, No. 2

From Our Pastor
I read a quote this morning that had great impact on me personally.  Neale Donald Walsch, in his book Communion with God, states “Happiness is not created as a result of certain conditions. Certain conditions are created as a result of happiness.”  I believe this to be true for my personal life, and in many ways, the life of our church.
For many years, we have spent much time and energy on a building that we believe will bring us happiness. Therefore, we believe that our happiness will come when the “conditions” are right (and we are comfortably in our building). Until then, we must assume that we are not completely happy. Walsch would counteract this reality with the idea that “happiness” must come first.  WOW!  What a powerful understanding of a simple concept.
I challenge you in the weeks and months ahead to think about where your happiness comes from and where we seek for this in the life of our church.  To be a healthy church, we must learn to be happy regardless of where we meet or when our building will actually be constructed. We must be thankful that we (MCC Rehoboth) share lives with a wonderful community of people and are moving the gospel throughout the Lewes/Rehoboth area.

Let us be challenged by the words of Paul: “Not that I speak in respect of want: for I have learned, in whatsoever state I am, therein to be content.”  Philippians 4:11 (English Standard Version)
Live on Purpose,

Rev. Dr. K’Lynne McKinley

February Is Black History Month
We stand with our brothers and sisters in the universal quest for justice and dignity.
On February 12, 1900, five hundred black school children gathered to celebrate Abraham Lincoln's birthday.  Their principal, James Weldon Johnson, presented a poem to welcome the day's guest speaker, Booker T. Washington.
Called "Lift Every Voice and Sing," that poem became a song when Johnson's brother, John Rosamond Johnson, set it to music. "Lift Every Voice and Sing" was named "The Negro National Anthem" by the NAACP in 1919, and serves now as an anthem of liberty for abused persons everywhere.

 “Lift Every Voice and Sing”
Lift every voice and sing, till earth and heaven ring,
Ring with the harmonies of liberty;
Let our rejoicing rise, high as the listening skies,
Let it resound loud as the rolling sea.
Sing a song full of the faith that the harsh past has taught us,
Sing a song full of the hope that the present has brought us;
Facing the rising sun of our new day begun,
Let us march on till victory is won.
Stony the road we trod, bitter the chastening rod,
Felt in the days when hope unborn had died;
Yet with a steady beat, have not our weary feet,
Come to the place for which our people sighed?
We have come over a way that with tears has been watered,
We have come, treading our path through the blood of the slaughtered;
Out from the gloomy past, till now we stand at last
Where the white gleam of our bright star is cast.
God of our weary years, God of our silent tears,
God Who hast brought us thus far on the way;
God Who by your might, led us into the light,
Keep us forever in the path, we pray.
Lest our feet stray from the places, our God, where we met you.
Lest our hearts, drunk with the wine of the world, forget you;
Shadowed beneath your hand, may we forever stand,
True to our God, true to our native land.

Our Mission:  We are a loving, open, and affirming Christian congregation, celebrating the wholeness of body, mind, and spirit.  Rooted in and reaching beyond the Rainbow Community, we are a lay-centered fellowship offering a safe and encouraging environment for spiritual transformation through worship, learning, growth, and service.

Our Worship:   MCC Rehoboth is a member congregation of the Universal Fellowship of Metropolitan Com- munity Churches (www.mccchurch.org) founded in 1968 to offer a home to everyone in affirmation of God’s unconditional, all-inclusive love. Recognizing that we come from a variety of religious backgrounds and traditions, we strive to present a balanced worship that honors the traditional while embracing what is new, and reclaiming the essential message of Jesus for today’s world.  Our Communion:  MCC churches throughout the world offer open communion.  Everyone is welcome to this table, regardless of church affiliation or personal belief.
